Great location for a short break. We stayed for two nights and found the hotel good value and a great base being only 5 mins walk from the Heuston train, tram and bus terminal, 40 mins on the bus from the airport at 12 Euros return. We would certainly use it as a base if we returned, and if you want to walk its only 20 mins along the Liffey to the town and Templebar area. Phoenix park right next door and lovely for walks ….

Mould around window too …. Date of stay: September Trip type: Travelled as a couple. Walking distance to train and airport bus. A quaint little pub 10min walk from the end of the airport bus route and right next door to Phoenix Park.

The room we had on the ground floor was very small, with no room to unpack or store suitcases. It was right beside a busy street, a popular route for emergency vehicles and very loud peolpe walking past the window at all hours of the night. Hence the lower score. Other rooms upstairs may be better. The service however was brilliant.

We arrived early and there were no rooms ready, so we were taken into the bar and given a cup of tea while we waited. The promised half hour ended up being closer to an hour and nearly normal check in time. Staff were very helpful providing advice on what to see in the area and where to eat.

Breakfast was a good selection of cold options. Room Tip: Newer rooms on second level may be quieter. DPGumby wrote a review Sep Scotland 93 contributions 45 helpful votes. Quiet Hotel in Good Location. This is located to the west of the city centre close to Heuston Terminus from the airport bus. The beds were comfortable and the place was very clean. The receptionist we met on arrival was very good and was able to give advice on points of interest, places to eat etc. We did not eat in the hotel, so can't comment. Previously, this had been stored in the powder magazine at Dublin Castle, a less than ideal situation, as became apparent in when Lord Arran, Deputy and son of the Viceroy, the Duke of Ormond, was obliged to give orders to blow up the long gallery communicating with the north-east tower in order to prevent a fire that started in his dining-room from reaching the powder magazine.

The powder was initially removed to the new Royal Hospital Kilmainham, but this was not a permanent solution. The magazine fort in the Phoenix Park was built with an eye to minimising the risk of and potential damage by accidental explosions. A blast wall above in the foreground on the right was built at right angles to the three magazines.

stephenhardy.me/xijil-beko-manual-de.php This wall was not a solid construction but built around a rubble core that would collapse in on itself in the event of an explosion. The arches on the walls of the long side of the magazine buildings below were were designed to break up the shock wave of an explosion. All fittings were made as far as possible to avoid accidental sparks through friction. The raised oak floors the original floors remain and one can be seen in the top photo were fastened with timber dowels rather than nails and locks were made of brass instead of steel. The three horses assigned to the first troops stationed there were not stabled on site but further down the hill, presumably to avoid sparks generated by horseshoes striking the cobblestones.

The fort was occupied until by the Irish army, although no munition was stored there after Today the grey stone buildings rise derelict from the eighteenth century cobblestones and the modern steel ramps, steps and platforms installed by the Office of Public Works to facilitate tours for visitors lend an industrial air to the scene.

The once-proud entrance arch was demolished to permit the entrance of modern lorries. Weeds grow everywhere while wooden doors gape ajar, half-rotten. Despite this gloomy appearance, enough remains of the original structures to make the fort worth a visit, even if it is only to enjoy the views over the park and surrounding countryside. An archaeological survey is being carried out at present and it is hope to restore the complex for use for exhibitions etc.
